Last week, Lynch proclaimed Singles the best soundtrack in movie history. I disagree. Right off the top of my head, I’d say Garden State is a stronger soundtrack. Singles might be the best of the 90s, but that’s it. What do you think? Best soundtrack - not including movie musicals or concert films? Sound off!

Reality Bites - not so much for the individual tracks but for the overall feel or it, it captured the kitsch and confusion of the era.
Judgement Night - because it rocked hard before Limp Bizkit took Rap and Metal and turned it into Meathead mook rock, nu-metal? naw, nu-butt rock.
Honorable mention to the Clerks Soundtrack for having Alice in Chains’ Got Me Wrong.

I have to say the best 2 soundtracks are:
1. Suburbia (released in 1984) - with D.I, The Vandals, TSOL.
2. Repo Man (released in 1984)- Iggy Pop, Black Flag, Suicidal etc..
More Punk than Alternative…But brings back some GOOD TIMES in Edmonton, at Spartans Mens Club…Whoooo Hooo

I really enjoy the soundtrack from Snatch. That’s the CD I put in when I start out on a long drive somewhere…like when I’m trying to get home on the Deerfoot.

Definitely the Natural Born Killers soundtrack. Put together by Trent himself, its got lots of wicked NIN like “Burn” and “Something I can Never Have”, as well as L7 stuff, some Dr. Dre, Bob Dylan, and even Jane’s Addiction.

Lost Angels - starring Adam Horovitz from the Beastie Boys! It might not be the most popular soundtrack, but it introduced me to Soundgarden and a few other good bands as well.

I may be a bit late on the discussion but…It’s more classic punk and rock on these two but you have to look at the John Cusack movies, Hi-fidelity and Grosse Pointe Blank. Both have some great bands on them.

“The Crow” had some pretty sweet tunes on it. Just to name a few bands; The Cure, Rage Against the Machine, Stone Temple Pilots, Nine Inch Nails. Plus it was a good movie so that always helps.

Great Expectations soundtrack is my favorite, great songs from Tori Amos, Pulp, Reef, Chris Cornell, Iggy Pop, Mono and Scott Weiland. The movie and the south park parody blew chucks but the soundtrack makes up for their short comings.

Okay I hope this doesn’t make me sound lame…But Garden State and OC soundtracks made me love music! I heard bands I have never heard…especially on the radio in Calgary…BOOOO. It made me into a music nut. I now spend alot of time finding that unknown band. I was introduced to Death Cab for a Cutie and The Shins. What would my life have become if I never heard that album? Would I be a Pussy Cat Dolls fan? I shiver at the thought. But I know how this album has changed me as a music lover.I can honestly say I love nothing more than music (other than family and pets) Music I can escape and Thank you Garden State and Thank you Oc soudtracks (Hate the show_awesome music)

Garden State gets such regular play in my CD player I think I burned a hole in the middle of it!
Good call Marcus, the Crow s/t might be my second favourite. Also Empire Records was fantastic.
(originally I was going to crack jokes about Footloose or Flashdance, but I’ll leave those alone for now! Although I know most of us had those at one time, myself included. On the “guilty pleasures” list of soundtracks…)

Garden State is a great soundtrack.
Some that have not been mentioned yet…
Daredevil - the intro for Evanescence but it had other great songs on it too.
Spawn - still one of the best 90’s CD because of the artist team-ups on it.

Wow, I thought it was a tough decision between Singles and Garden State, but I’d agree with the OC being way up there. I, too, have been introduced to some absolutely fantastic bands, that I’m not sure I’d have come across otherwise.
But if I had to pick just one, it would be, Garden State, it is actually one of my favorite movies to boot!

I can’t believe no one said The Cocktail Soundtrack yet.

I have to agree with Lynch that ‘Singles’ is definitely my top soundtrack. You can’t beat a soundtrack that features two songs by Pearl Jam! Plus it includes many of my other favourite bands: The Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, The Screaming Trees, and Soundgarden. It also places Pearl Jam alongside its predecessor, Mother Love Bone. Of course, I may be a tad biased as a devoted PJ fan.

Valley Girl (1984)… don’t laugh… I’m into all the new stuff too… but consider the Psychedelic Furs, Modern English (btw… Melt With You… most underrated / ignored single in the history of music… note I said most underrated / ignored… not the best… that’s reserved for Joy Division Love Will Tear Us Apart), Sparks, etc. Hey if you are looking for someone with brilliant musical taste to help host the Six O’Clock Rock Report or fill in part time let me know. I have a great voice too. Oh… right… Singles is awesome too.
