Yesterday I talked about how I’d noticed a few people out in Calgary who instead of just saying “bye” when they hang up, they say “mmbye.” I wondered if this is a western Canadian phenomenon since I don’t recall hearing it back in Ontario. Lynch does it, as does one of my new friends Brian - who I captured in the audio below. Another quirk a listener pointed out, was the use of “hey” instead of “eh.” Any other speech patterns unique to western Canada?
Today on Josh’s Big Box O CDs I featured a track from Dodgy. They put out their last album and broke up in 2001. In A Room?came out in ?1996 on the album Free Peace Sweet. This is a fantastically catchy brit-pop song. The band apparently still maintains a MySpace profile.
Today on Josh’s Big Box O CDs we featured a staple of the 90s Canadian music scene, Winnipeg’s Watchmen. The last alum the Watchmen put out was 2001’s Slomotion which featured the single Absolutely Anytime. It was packaged with a second greatest hits disc which featured this electronic-tinged version of their 1998 song Stereo.
I still am amused on a daily basis by the website Hot Chicks with Douchebags, which is described as “pictures of hot chicks with total and complete douchebags. With commentary.” You’ve gotta check it out. Lots of HCwDBs in Calgary bars. I think the one at the link might be a Calgary douchebag.
Adam Green’s song Jessica was what I pulled out of Josh’s Big Box O CDs today. The song is from the album Friends of Mine, and is a paen to “singer” Jessica Simpson.
Today Josh’s Big Box of CDs featured the song Me & Mia from Ted Leo and Pharmacists. You’ll find it on the album Shake the Sheets. He has a new album out this month called Living With The Living.
Josh’s Big Box O CDs today featured a song from The Kooks. I discovered this album last year, and the song You Don’t Love Me is still my favourite song from the album?Inside In/Inside Out. On X92.9 we’ve been regularly playing the song Naive, and I thought I’d give you a taste of something different.
Amanda stopped by the X92.9 RV to chat about her bid to become Maxim magazine’s next Hometown Hottie.? You can rock your vote on the website.
